This page is designed to let faculty members at UTPB know what is changing as we transition from Campus Connect to People Soft as the primary system we use for academic advising and many other campus functions. Since the role of the Dean of Undergraduate Success is to focus on helping our students achieve their academic goals, this page focuses on those issues which faculty members are most likely to encounter as we help our students. It will be updated regularly as the transition to People Soft continues. Please let me (Bill Harlow) know as you discover challenges with helping students using the new system, and I will post solutions as we work through them.
I want to start by answering the "Why are we doing this?" question. This was a decision taken by the University of Texas System which applies to most of the campuses in our system. Thus we are not alone, and my offices are working closely with colleagues at other institutions- particularly the University of Texas at Tyler- to learn from their experience and build on it to make ours as smooth as possible. While this decision was taken at the System level, it will help us alleviate several challenges with very old IT architecture on our campus. Unfortunately, there will be some significant challenges during a transition period as the new software is implemented and we learn to interact with it. This page is designed to alleviate some of the challenges of that transition. I have split the page below into to sections. One discusses differences between People Soft and Campus Connect, and the other talks about what to do. We will keep updating these points as we learn more and as you send questions to us. We also have some helpful references which may be useful as you learn the new software:
